  • What is a triathlon?

A triathlon is a multi-sport competition consisting of three parts: swimming, cycling and running – performed directly after each other.

  • What are the triathlon distances?

The best known is the Full Distance where you swim 3.8 km, cycle 180 km and run 42.2 km.

Then comes the Half Distance: 1900 meters swimming, 90 km cycling and 21 km running.

⅓ (One third) Distance is 1500 meters swimming, 60 km cycling and 15 km running

Olympic Distance or OD (Olympic Distance) is 1,500 meters swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running

Sprint Distance is 750 m swimming, 20 km cycling, 5 km running.

  • What distances does DTS offer?

DTS organizes multiple distances per event:

Rookie Wave (ideal for beginners) and Recreational Sprint = the Sprint Distance (750-20-5)

Olympic Distance (OD) is 1,500 meters swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running

⅓ (One third) Distance is 1500 meters swimming, 60 km cycling and 15 km running

Not every distance is available at every location. Check the program per location for details.

  • What is the difference between the Rookie wave and the regular Sprint wave (Recreational)?

The Rookie wave is especially meant for beginners. The pace is slower, there is extra explanation and there is a relaxed atmosphere.

  • Does the Rookie wave have its own award ceremony?

No, the Rookie wave is focused on experience and personal performance. There is time registration and it falls under the Sprint classification. Of course, a nice medal and a warm welcome for everyone at the finish. And a free massage!

  • Is there a difference between the two waves of the Olympic distance?

No, but because there are many participants in the Olympic distance we need multiple start waves, so that everyone can race safely. So you can choose which start time suits you best. So there is only one OD classification and podium ceremony

  • Can I rent a bicycle?

  • Is a wetsuit mandatory?

At water temperatures below 16°C a wetsuit is mandatory. At higher temperatures it is optional, but recommended. Above 23 degrees water temperature wetsuits are prohibited. The organization will announce the water temperature via the social media channels a few days before the competition.

  • I rented a wetsuit and now the swimming is suddenly cancelled due to blue-green algae. Will I get my money back?

No, unfortunately that is not possible. The organization has no influence on the climate, but the safety of the participants is paramount. If the amount of blue-green algae is too high after a test, the swimming part can be canceled and replaced by an extra running part. In this case, no refund of wetsuit rental and/or registration ticket is possible.

  • I don't have a triathlon bike. Can I participate with a city bike or mountain bike?

Absolutely. Everyone is welcome, also with a city bike or MTB. Make sure that your bike is in good technical condition and that you wear a helmet. The officials check at the entrance of the transition zone whether your brakes work properly, whether there are no protruding parts on your bike and whether your helmet fits properly.
