  • What is a triathlon?

A triathlon is a multisport competition consisting of three parts: swimming, cycling, and running – performed one after the other.

  • What are the triathlon distances?

The best known is probably the Full Distance, where you swim 3.8 km, cycle 180 km, and run 42.2 km.

Next comes the Half Distance: 1,900 meters swimming, 90 km cycling, and 21 km running.

⅓ (One-third) Distance is 1,500 meters swimming, 60 km cycling, and 15 km running

The Olympic Distance, or OD, consists of a 1,500-meter swim, a 40 km bike ride, and a 10 km run.

The Sprint Distance is 750 m swimming, 20 km cycling, and 5 km running.

  • Which distances does DTS offer?

    DTS is organizing in 2026:

    SPRINT DISTANCE

    OLYMPIC DISTANCE

    MIDDLE DISTANCE

    Always multiple distances per event:

For the SPRINT DISTANCE, we always offer a Rookie Wave, ideal for beginners as we provide a bit more explanation during the briefing. Additionally, there is the Recreational Sprint, for which both beginner and advanced triathletes can register. Both waves have the same distances: 750m swim, 20K bike, and 5K run. The two waves are held under one and the same awards ceremony. There are prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place men and women overall, and for the 3 fastest in each age group (14-29 / 30-39 / 40-49 / 50-59 / 60 ).

Olympic Distance (OD) is a 1,500-meter swim, a 40 km bike ride, and a 10 km run.

⅓ (One-third) Distance is 1,500 meters swimming, 60 km cycling, and 15 km running

(in previous editions we did this distance at DTS HLMRMEER, but this year the MIDDLE DISTANCE has taken its place.

MIDDLE DISTANCE (only at DTS HLMRMEER) = 1900m swimming, 90km cycling and 21km running.

Check the program per DTS event for details.

  • What is the difference between the Rookie wave and the regular Sprint wave (Recreational)?

The Rookie wave is specifically designed for beginners. The tempo is slightly slower everywhere, and there is a relaxed atmosphere.

During the briefing, we explain the plan at a slightly higher level and in more detail, and there is ample time and opportunity to ask questions.

  • Does the Rookie wave have its own award ceremony?

No, the Rookie Wave simply falls under the Sprint category, and just like with the OD, prizes are distributed across all starting heats in the same distance. The Rookie Wave is also focused on the experience and personal achievement. There is also timekeeping, so this wave falls under the Sprint classification. Naturally, every finisher receives a beautiful medal and a warm welcome. And... a free massage!

  • Is there a difference between the two waves of the Olympic distance?

No, but because many participants are competing in the Olympic distance, we need multiple start waves so that everyone can race safely. You can therefore choose the start time that suits you best. Consequently, there is only one Olympic distance classification and podium ceremony.

  • Can I rent a bike?

No, we no longer have a rental partner for bicycles, so you have to arrange that yourself. Check www.racefietstehuur.nl, for example.

  • Can I rent a bicycle helmet?

    www.racefietstehuur.nl

    Via www.racefitesverhuur.nl

  • Can I rent a wetsuit?

Yes, you can log in to your registration environment via the “MY DASHBOARD” button in your confirmation email. You can then still order a wetsuit. This is possible up to 14 days before a race at the latest. Approximately 10 days before a race, the wetsuits will be sent by Dare2Tri via post. You must return it within 7 days after the race in the enclosed plastic bag with the free return label attached.

  • Until when can I order a wetsuit?

This is possible up to 14 days before a race. Approximately 10 days before a race, the wetsuits will be sent by Dare2Tri via post. You must return it within 7 days after the race in the enclosed plastic bag with the free return label attached.

  • Is a wetsuit mandatory?

At water temperatures below 16°C, a wetsuit is mandatory. At higher temperatures, it is optional but recommended. Wetsuits are prohibited above a water temperature of 23 degrees. The organization will announce the water temperature via social media channels a few days before the competition.

  • Am I allowed to swim in a sleeveless wetsuit?

Yes, that is allowed. Above 16 degrees, you may also swim in a so-called shorty; without sleeves or with short legs as well.

  • I rented a wetsuit and now the swimming is suddenly cancelled due to blue-green algae. Will I get my money back?

No, unfortunately that is not possible. The organization has no influence on the climate, but the safety of the participants comes first. If a test reveals that the level of blue-green algae is too high, the swimming event may be cancelled and replaced with an extra running event. In this case, no refund of wetsuit rental and/or registration ticket is possible.

  • I don't have a triathlon bike. Can I participate with a city bike or mountain bike?

Absolutely. Everyone is welcome, even with a city bike or MTB. Just make sure your bike is in good technical condition and that you wear a helmet. Officials will check at the entrance to the transition zone whether your brakes are working properly, whether there are any protruding parts on your bike, and whether your helmet fits well.

  • I am injured. Will I get my registration fee back?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds in the event of injury or illness. However, you can transfer your registration to another race later in the season or find someone to take over your entry. We do not offer waiting lists or a marketplace for offering and transferring entries. You must arrange this yourself. There are costs associated with transferring or shifting a registration. Please read our General Terms and Conditions for details. These can be found at the bottom of the website.

  • I have a doctor's certificate. Will I get my money back then?

Unfortunately, even with a doctor's certificate, we cannot issue a refund. However, you may transfer your starting spot or reschedule it to another event later in the season. There are costs associated with this. Please read our General Terms and Conditions for more information. These can be found at the bottom of the website.

  • I have someone who wants to take my place. Is that allowed?

Yes, you may do so up to 14 days before the event. You can arrange this yourself in your own back office by clicking the blue “My Dashboard” button in the confirmation email. There are costs associated with this.

  • I would prefer to start a different distance or at a different time. Is that possible?

In many cases, this is possible, provided there are still spots available in the desired wave. You can arrange this yourself in your own back office by clicking the blue “My Dashboard” button in the confirmation email. There may be associated costs.
