PARCOURS

The fastest triathlon in the Netherlands: racing on the legendary Zandvoort circuit!

OLYMPIC & SPRINT DISTANCE

SWIM

Olympic: 1500 meters

Sprint: 750 meters

The swimming part of DTS GRAND PRIX ZANDVOORT takes place in the sea, which is unique in the Netherlands. After a short briefing at Bernie’e Beach on the beachfront terrace (downstairs at T1), all participants walk together across the beach to the start. Arriving at the start, the starting gun sounds and you run into the sea towards the 1st buoy. From there you swim in a straight line, along the shore towards the turning point. After 750 meters you turn around and swim back along the shore towards the start. There you come out of the sea and run up the beach towards the transition zone in the parking lot.

BIKE

Olympic: 40 KM
Sprint: 18,6 KM

This is the most spectacular cycling course in the Netherlands and a bucket list for many triathletes; cycling over the Formula 1 Circuit of Zandvoort! The Circuit is exactly 4,251 KM long. To get to 39.3 KM we all have to pay attention, because you don’t want to cycle one lap too many (= “slow” finish time) and certainly not one lap too few (= disqualified). From the boulevard you cycle 1KM and then you turn onto the Circuit. 100 meters further you pass the official finish line and there Mylaps has a time registration mat where you MUST have cycled 9 times before you can enter T2. So you end up cycling almost 9 full laps around the course. Check our tips to get the right number of laps. Staying is NOT allowed!

RUN

Olympic: 10 KM
Sprint: 5 KM

DUATHLOn

With a triathlon comes swimming and of course, we want it the most and are always positive. For the swimming part, we have good contact with the local lifeguard. We also take into account ebb, flood and current. Swimming is done parallel to the shoreline. 1 lane of 750 meters or 750 meters up and down. Every 250m someone from the DTS crew stands knee-deep in the sea with a large flag on a stick to show you, the participants, the route (line). Due to the rapidly changing state of the water (ebb & flow), the DTS crew member with a flag can also move so that the participants always have enough depth to swim properly. The three different sandbanks off the coast require absolute customization during the swim.

We ask all participants to inform themselves well about the possible presence of dangerous currents and how to deal with them properly. We also discuss this in the participant information.

Our aim is always that the swim can go ahead, but safety and health of participants are paramount. This means that if the waves in the sea are too high and/or the currents too strong we may decide, in consultation with the rescue team, to cancel the swim and replace it with an extra run. The triathlon will then become a Run Bike Run.
